Room 4 Pool Party!

 Room 4 Pool Party!

On Tuesday 30th of November, Room 4 had a pool party as a prize. Everyone had fun! They played risk and war, (Not real war!).

The food included chips, mini donuts, biscuits, popcorn,

cupcakes and rice bubble cake.

We enjoyed it, but the pool was cold!

We still had fun!

Leighton's Whenua Iti Holiday

 Whenua Iti Holiday Programme

Case Study: Whenua Iti Outdoors | Avoca Web Design Nelson

Our favourite thing at Whenua Iti on Monday, was the flying kiwi.

On Tuesday we worked with clay and we made tiles to put on the wall at Whenua Iti. We made one to take home and made animals too. Then we had a challenge to make a dragon mixed with a flower and turtle. We had a ton of fun.Trekking with Whenua Iti - International Gap Year Programs | Carpe Diem Education

On Wednesday

we went for a walk down the Abel Tasman coastal track to the toilet spot. But on the way we went down to the beaches. When we went to one beach. We had to climb across slippery rocks without falling in the water… But I fell into the water and some other people went with me and at the beach we saw jellyfish.Outcomes & Activities | Whenua Iti Outdoors

On Thursday

we went abseiling off a cliff at the beach. We had a nice person who helped us and told us how to abseil and how to use the rope. I didn't abseil, because I was scared. It was cool to watch people go down. Then I went to play down on the beach with my new friends where we splashed in the water. We saw a huge jellyfish in the water, but sadly it died. On the big rocks we saw starfish then someone saw a Blue penguin in a cave. Then we went back.

On Friday

We went for a walk and we went to look at a river.

Then we went down to the rocks. Some people like me drank fresh water and other people explored the rocks. We walked back to the car. Next we went to Rabbit Island and the beach. I had a swim in my togs. The water was very shallow. Next we went back to Whenua Iti and all of the kids and I got a certificate and a pin in front of my and their parents.

Week 5 in Room 4 - swimming

Blog Update: Week 5

Week 5 was exciting week for Room 4, full with swimming lessons at the Aquatic Centre, and a wonderful trip at the Nelson Museum

Our lessons at the Aquatic centre were enjoyable for everyone. Our class was set into two different groups. One went to the lessons first, the other went to the wave pool. After around 20 minutes we swapped. The same groups continued every day.

On Thursday we went to the dinosaur exhibit, and saw different dinosaurs such as: Therzinosuar, Velosiraptor, T-rex, and more.

We learned about keratin and what it makes. We learned that it made up hair, nails, spikes, claws etc.

They took us to the dig pit, where we could  brush away tiny foam cubes and find either dinosaur eggs, skulls, claws, or fossils set in stone.

The very same day we did water safety at the Aquatic centre, we were taught how to stay warm in the sea when stranded alone, as well as when you're stranded in a group. We were taught tactics on how to swim and not lose lots of energy.

The Other Day We Had Mr T

We did a science experiment. The experiment was 3 Mentos placed into an open bottle of diet coke. The explosion reached one foot in the air, not reaching anyone’s skin.Does the Mentos and Soda Trick Work With Regular Coke?

The Day We Had Mr Turner

THE DAY WE HAD MR  TURNER

The other day we had Mr Turner in Ruma Wha. It was super awesome. We did some fun science and we had a few rounds of dodgeball. We started off with some dodgeball, but everyone got tired quite quickly, so we went inside and Mr T quizzed us on birds and what they sound like. When he had given out all his birds, we did handwriting about tectonic plates.

Afterwards, we went out and

did some super fun relays with Room  5 and Room 3. After the relays, we had lunch, and next at the end of the day, we had three more rounds of dodgeball. At the end of all the rounds, Team Two was winning by 1 point at 3 points to 2. Next time, team 2, we’re coming for you!!!
