                  At The Aquatic Centre

We have been going to the Aquatic Centre for two weeks. We have had half an hour on swimming lessons and another half on free time in the wave pool.
We were doing it, because we raised a lot of money from the festival. They were very nice to help us with all kinds of swimming e.g backstroke, freestyle, butterfly brain, goggle, cheek, breathing position, etc.
We really liked them teaching us the wonders of swimming. We have really enjoyed and do hope they have a good holiday.

We are learning about the outdoors.
We learnt how to put up tents, tie knots, make hobo stoves and make forts.
We cooked pancakes on the hobo stoves and put chocolate sauce on them.
They were really, really, really yummy!
Kaisami's exchange student came in to teach us how to make forts which was really fun.
We all learnt lots of cool things. The year 6 students also went to M.O.T.E.C which was really really fun and we got to make cool things like hats, picture frames, lip balm and beeswax wrap.

parihaka

Today is Parihaka day.

Parihaka day is the fifth of November which is also Guy Fawkes day.
Parihaka day is the day where Maori people didn't fight when they got attacked and they just sat down, and did nothing.
They even got the kids to go up to the people attacking them and give them flowers. It is commemorated on the 6th November.

On Tuesday, the ATYA students went to Bark Bay and released 12 Kaka.

One of the Kaka landed behind Sanne. The Kaka didn't know which one of them would leave the aviary first. The ATYA students climbed a tree and saw a Kaka. It was just moving its head and not leaving the tree. Sophie said "Look its flying!"

alexis

Today Alexis came in to talk to us about respect, friendship, excellence and her career at boxing.
Her worst injury was a fracture in her jaw.

she taught us about the Olympic values.

Some people got her signature. she is really nice, funny and cool.

She really inspired us.

We had lots of fun with her and we learnt lots about boxing and the Olympics.

Also learnt about her cake business. Her first cake she ever made was a truck cake for her friends son's birthday. Her favourite cake she made was a Nemo cake. Her favourite types of cake are chocolate cake and her mums home made cheese cake.

She looks up to her mum a lot.

She came to New Zealand cos her mum needed a new job and some of her friends were there.

Te Reo Maori

Once a week, we have Te Reo Maori with River. She teaches us how to pronounce different types of fruit, animals, and different genders of people. For instance, she taught us the word here which means cherry, she taught us that baby is pÄ“pi,  and woman is whaia. she also teaches us how to ask for things that we want like homai te pukapuka, which is pass me the book, tangohia nga pÄ“pi, which is pick up the baby. Ho atu te pene rakau is pass away the pencil, waihotia te pepa is put down the paper, and so on.
It is really fun learning Te Reo with river,  and we are proud of ourselves for learning a native language.
